The events that made the 1970s immortal.

American Football: In 1970 American Football went trough a major modification. Before the 1970s American football existed as two leagues the NFL (National Football League) and the AFL (American Football League). In 1970 after huge discussions and meetings both leagues came to an agreement where they would merge and become the NFL where there would be 26 teams fighting for the Vince Lombardy Trophy. The modification was created because of an unbalanced number of teams in both the NFL and the AFL there was 16 teams in the NFL and 10 teams in the AFL so because of the leagues needing to move 3 teams to AFL they decided to merge creating both conferences inside the NFL the NFC (National Football Conference) and the AFC (American Football Conference).  Now the NFL is one of the top grossing sports in the world as well as franchise thanks to this merger that allowed more and better competition but also a more efficient system of keeping track of all teams and scores. Boxing:In 1970 the great Cassius Clay, better known as Muhammad Ali, was given the license to fight again in the state of New York. After Ali had evaded the draft for the Vietnam War, Ali’s license for boxing was taken forms him and he was no longer able to fight. The great Ali said “Why should they ask me to put on a uniform and go 10,000 miles from home and drop bombs and bullets on brown people while so-called Negro people in Louisville are treated like dogs? “ – (Muhammad Ali). After Ali was allowed to fight in the state of Georgia without a license and won the fight, after Georgia he was allowed to fight in New York and when he got his boxing license he continued his career and went on to win many championships. Leading him to the boxing Hall of Fame. ("Muhammad Ali Biography •." Biography Online)

Roger Staubach: Rodger Staubach is a former Vietnam veteran, Pro Football, All American, and Football Hall of Fame quarter back. He entered the U.S. Naval Academy and he won the Heisman Trophy while he was there. Staubach fell to the 10th round being drafted by the Dallas Cowboys. Every team in the league knew that Rodger had a 5-year commitment to the Navy and this is why a Heisman Trophy winner fell to the 10th round in the 1964 NFL draft. (NFL. "'Caught in the Draft': Roger Staubach's Draft Story.") Rodger Staubach was a candidate to be pulled form the league and be sent on a tour to Vietnam. Rodger was flown in from Vietnam or form wherever he was stationed and practiced with the Dallas Cowboys and right after carried on with his duties. Rodger Staubach did not play an official football game until 5 years later in 1969. This impressive Navy Veteran went on to win two Super bowls for the Dallas Cowboys and 4 NFC titles. (Kreidler, Mark. "From Military Veteran to NFL Star.")
