John Lennon: John Lennon is a renowned British icon through out the world. Lennon was a songwriter and musician for the famous band The Beatles. He was known all around the world and is a very important person because not only make beautiful music for a sad, sad world but he was also a social activist with many views on subjects that touched on peace. Lennon and his wife Yoko Ono invented a new way of peaceful protest, which involved them, staying in bed and being filmed by the media. In the interviews Lennon and Ono are singing songs, talking to each other, stating there personal views on the subject at hand and sometimes drawing or looking at drawings. Lennon was a very important person because not only did his band break trough to The United States but they were also important Icons for the music culture. As Lennon traveled through the U.S. he encountered many fans and concerts. He helped the disabled and made concerts to promote peace in Vietnam and in the world. In 1980 Lennon was shot down in New York by a crazed fan and died shortly after in a hospital near by. ("John Lennon." Bio.com. A&E Networks Television)

 

Mark Spitz: Mark Spitz is a professional swimmer who won 7 gold medals in the 1972 world Olympics in Germany. Spitz is a very important person because it was the first time that an American swimmer had ever won 7 gold medals in different events and breaking records as he went. Today this is not as impressive as it was back then because of the new Olympian Michel Phelps but back then in the 70’s Spitz was a praised Olympian that stood as an icon and as a role model in The United States. Before Phelps, Spitz held the record for most medals won in a single Olympics and was held as a true champion for many years. Many argue that Spitz is the best Olympian that the United Sates has ever produced with a majestic performance at the 1972 Olympics. The 1970s was proud to have produced and watched this Olympian place America back on the top charts of swimming. He was very important and significant because he is the first athlete to have ever won 7 medals in a single year. ("Mark Spitz." Bio.com. John Travolta: John Travolta is an American actor who became big in the 70’s. As a young teenager Travolta dropped out of school at the age of 16 to peruse his passion for acting in the cast of Grease on Broadway where he scored his first big job. Due the fact that Travolta grew up in New Jersey many opportunities in Broadway had been presented to Travolta. Travolta later went to act in the show business in popular shows like “Welcome back Kotter”. After this Travolta went on to act in movies like Saturday Night Fever which sent him strait to the big leagues after his incredible performance as well as the movie Grease. Later on Travolta would make a return to the industry staring in Quentin Tarantino’s “Pulp Fiction”. Travolta worked hard and long to become one of he best actors in the show business but he was also a natural talent with a passion and a vision towards success which made him the huge star that the is today. He is relevant to this time frame because Travolta was one of the many stars that the 70’s produced and boy, has everyone benefited form this. ("John Travolta." Bio.com.
