"The finest steel has to go through the hottest flame."

(Richard M. Nixon)

Watergate Casualty: The Watergate scandal was an incident that occurred in Washington D.C. The day was June 17, 1972 when some burglars entered the Democratic National Committee in the Watergate building where they were attempting to wiretap phones and steel secrete documents. The interesting or horrible thing is that President Richard Nixon was behind the whole things. Richard Nixon was then found to cover up the incident and stop the FBI form looking into the subject. Later in August 1974 Richard Nixon resigns from office leaving his vice president Gerald Ford in Office. This was a very important or very significant because it was an event that made the American people question their leaders and become very careful with their leadership and how will they be governed. They ultimately began to think more critically about the presidency. (History.com Staff. "Watergate Scandal.")

Richard M. Nixon: Richard M. Nixon, the 37th president of The United States of America, is the only president in U.S. history to have resigned form office halfway through his second term in the intent to avoid the Watergate scandal he was accused of. After serving as Vice president for President Dwight Eisenhower in the 50s and running for presidency against John F. Kennedy and loosing he finally runs for president in 1968 and wins. He serves two terms as a republican President. Nixon was coming to be a liked president through out the people because he was a change for the Vietnam War. Nixon wanted to bring back troops and demilitarize Vietnam by the end of his second term and this was what the people really wanted. After being governed by John F. Kennedy and having a failed invasion in Cuba and LBJ, a president that was racist and wanted war, raised a president that would leave Vietnam alone and would make the country a better place until the Watergate scandal. Gerald Ford and Jimmy Carter: After Richard Nixon’s resignation in 1974 two presidents served for the rest of the 70s, Gerald Ford and Jimmy Carter. Gerald ford was the vice president for president Richard Nixon and Jimmy Carter won the election in 1977 after defeating the prior president Gerald Ford. These two presidents served in office as first republican with Ford and then was a Democrat with Jimmy Carter. Both presidents had a very turbulent presidency with many ups and downs. It was turbulent because they both started with high expectations and popular approval but as time went buy and problems rose to the surface these presidents were not capable of dealing with things like the high oil prices due to the embargos and both foreign policies that were as vague and fragile as they have ever been. It was a time of turbulent politics, which made the 70s so interesting in a deeper level with many enigmas, and mysteries that are still considered taboo in The United States.("Gerald Ford." Bio.com.
