Society was very DIFFERENT, just you look.

Marijuana: In the 1970s marijuana was a drug used by the majority of the young adults. In 1973 some state governments decriminalized the possession of up to an ounce of marijuana. This was in some states across the country that contained one-third of the population of the entire country this lasted up until 1978. As a result of the drugs many doctors started to publish works and research about the excessive use of weed. This was a huge scare towards the people and civilization because the media started to publish that if the decriminalization stated to spread and people consumed weed at that rate then we would soon have a civilization of half-zombie people. They also say that people would be crippled physically or mentally and that would create a huge problem for the country. After many children under the age of 18 were reported to have used marijuana in the past month the government began a war against the drug and has been a subject of mass discrepancies since then. (Dufton, Emily. "You Won't Believe What Anti-Pot Crusaders Said About Weed in the 1970s.")

The Disco Era: The disco era was an era that spanned through the 1970s. This era was an era where people were encouraged to dance and party often to an excessive amount. This was encouraged due the fact that the media had started to broadcast movies that showed all these characters that had more of an uncensored sexual life that was becoming more common. The 70s was an era where people began to experiment with their bodies as well as new drugs that enhanced their perspective on life like marijuana. Films and other media represent this era in a very particular way because it has an amazing dance craze which is exactly what happened before “crashing abruptly” (Susan King, Classic Hollywood) in the 1980. Everything was very fun in the meaning of very free and knew until the AIDS scare started at the end of the 1970s and beginnings of the 1980s.(King, Susan. "Classic Hollywood: Disco Era Flared, Then Fizzled.")

The Television: In the 70s television was becoming a huge social aspect that was being redefined by branching out into new material that was not only informative but also very entertaining. New programs that impacted the world and are still making a re-run today like the “Brady Bunch”, “All in the Family”, “Happy Days”, “Love American Style”, and of course the longest-running children TV show “Sesame Street”. This TV era might be called the golden age of television because it was a very big leap towards a modern way of viewing television and information. Since the beginning of the television every decade has brought forward a program or show that has defined the specific decade and the 70s was no exception, in fact it may be the decade that has contributed the most shows that have become classics and are considered TV masterpieces. These are important because they gave way to modern series and shows that are watched today through out the globe.(Owenby, Jeff. "70's Television.")
